HICAP-HGA Christmas Party

HICAP-HGA will have their early Christmas party soon. It will be in the South Villas Clubhouse of South Forbes Golf City, Santa Rosa, Laguna. Just a stone throw away* from Laguna Technopark, Paseo de Santa Rosa, Ayala Westgrove Heights, Laguna Bel-Air, De La Salle University, St. Scholastica's College and Don Bosco.

Food services will be handled by Joen Delfino of South Villas Cuisine (restaurant inside the South Villas clubhouse). You can contact her for restaurant reservations or catering services outside South Forbes Golf City at joenfoodservices@yahoo.com or +63-915-9805846.

Party Day

On November 30, 2006 from 6:30 PM, HICAP-HGA held its early Christmas Party. Incidentally, it was the expected landfall of Super Typhoon Reming earlier that day. Pam, Vicky and I were worried what to do if it comes on time and be as strong or stronger than Milenyo. Waaah! We asked Joen Delfino, our caterer that instead of the originally planned al fresco dining, we will just have an indoor dining to be ready for Reming. When 6:00 PM came, there was still no rain and the wind is bearable. Reming was late. Yipeee! We went straight to South Forbes Villas Clubhouse to prepare a few more stuffs before the party starts at 6:30 PM.

The party started with a toast lead by Ernie Palomares.

Next came a game to raise everybody's spirit - Trip to Jerusalem. But this game has a twist. The ladies must grab the gentlemen's banana.

Meanwhile, Avel covered his face. I wonder why. Is that a happy face or a sad face he's hiding?

Dinner was next. We had squash soup, beef with mushroom salpicado, chicken cordon bleu, fish fillet with garlic sauce, eggplant creole, pasta paradiso, turon ala mode, mango sago pandan, beer and free-flowing iced tea.

Special awards were given after dinner. The awards were based on the result of voting conducted a week before the party and based on official records from HR.

The awardees are:

Sandy Joson: Batang Bibo -The most makulit engineer of HGA.

Peter Lim: Promil Child - The multi-talented engineer of HGA.

Mark Edralin & Helen Grace Amil: Mr. & Ms. Friendship - touched the hearts of their peers in a way that built trust, cooperation and a lot of friendship votes in HGA.

Devachan Oliveros & Christy Alarcon: Mr. & Ms. Crush ng Bayan - Engineers who can launch a thousand ships.

Precilito Dueñas: Early Bird - The engineer that has an undying commitment to always come to work ahead of everybody else.

Joseph Camia & Rhea Diestro: OT King & Queen - Engineers with untiring dedication to work long hours and on weekends.

Roland Laresma & Elizabeth Balbin: Mr. & Ms. Perfect Attendance - Engineers with heroic feats of never ever failing to report to work against all odds.

Rhoxz Arceleta received the award for Beth as well as for the following:

Roel Hernandez: Leadership Award - For his role in promoting HGA improvements.

May Louvelle Lescano: Ms. OHSAS 18001 - For her commitment to safety on the job and dedication to helping maintain an accident free workplace.

Melvin Dela Peña: Inventor of the Year - The engineer who submitted the most number of patent disclosures in 2006.

Another game followed wherein participants will stick colored circles all over their body. After they attached the colored circles, they should find the same color on their team mate then make them touch each other.

If that's the rule, imagine what would happen to the blue circle of Carlo and Sandy.

Krispy Kreme is Here!

Finally, after almost 70 years, Krispy Kreme finally landed in our shores. Two stores will be opening before this year ends. One in The Fort and one in Megamall. My shakoy favorite now has a competition hehe.

The first Krispy Kreme customer in The Fort on November 30 will get a year supply of Krispy Kreme. The first 500 customers will get a T-shirt. Fall in line early. Bring your bed, lots of water and wear an adult diaper if you want to be first in line. They will open at 8:30am.

Miko the Teriyaki Boy, ECE

PRC announced that 1,631 out of 4,513 passed the Electronics and Communications Engineer Licensure Examination given by the Board of ECE last November 4 &5, 2006. My brother, Miko Unite, was one of those who passed. Yehey! Congrats Mik!

I only have two brothers. Miko was born 12 years after me then our youngest, Ian Jerome who is now in college, was born 4 years later.

As a treat for Miko, Lilia and I brought my brothers and parents to Teriyaki Boy in Festival Mall Alabang.

This was only the second time my mom and my brothers ate in a Japanese restaurant. The first time was a few years back in a hard core Japanese restaurant that had tables with short legs where you sit on tatami mats because there were no chairs, waitresses in kimono and where you can order true Japanese tasting okonomiyaki, katsu kare and nato. Teriyaki Boy is more of a pang-masa Japanese restaurant with selected Japanese dishes tuned to be liked by Filipinos just like Tokyo-Tokyo restaurant. My father worked in Mitsubishi Motors but already forgot his chopstick skills after retiring a more than decade ago.

I reminded them that it is not polite to stick chopsticks into the rice then let go of them leaving them in the rice to have a conversation. The correct way is to rest it horizontally on the rice bowl or in the chopstick rest if provided. I also warned them about a small Wasabi lump that looked like sweet mint green icing but actually tastes hot.

Aside from ebi (shrimp) tempura we also had Lapu-Lapu tempura.

The last of the California maki. Miko wanted sushi so we ordered tamago (egg) sushi and California maki. I did not tell them that the orange granules in the California maki are ripe eggs of a flying fish. Now they know hehe. Anyway, the taste is not as strong as Salmon egg.

Here are some other chopsticks do's and don'ts:

• It is not polite to rub chopstick together to remove rough edges. Just ask for a new one.
• If the food is too big, it's ok to use the chopsticks like fork and knife to cut the food into smaller pieces.
• Do not pass food from chopstick to chopstick.

Negosyong Pinoy 2006

Last weekend we went to SM Megamall to attend the 1st Negoyong Pinoy Exhibit. Negosyong Pinoy, the 1st micro entrepreneur trade fair in the Philippines was staged by the Center for Small Entrepreneurs (CSE) together with Trade Advertising Exhibitions and Conventions International, Inc. (TRADECON, INC.) to foster entrepreneurship through growth oriented business opportunities. It ran from October 27 - 29, 2006 at the Megatrade Hall 1 of SM Megamall. It took center stage in promoting micro entrepreneurship in one exposition event. The main expo comprised of national government entities, micro-entrepreneurs, banks, home-grown franchise businesses, retailers and wholesalers, exporters and importers, inventrepreneurs, business solutions companies, freight forwarders and cooperatives. It was a good meeting place for people who are looking for business opportunities and to update entrepreneurs of current business trends.

There was an entrance fee of PhP 20 for adults and upon entering the fair, you will be greeted by a lot of people and given brochures about the franchise they offer. You can have a business for as small as PhP 500 startup capital (E-load business). There were new names in food carts/stalls with franchise fee less than PhP 50,000.

A guest from the BIR explained how small businesses with up to PhP 3,000,000 annual net profit can be tax exempt under their program. The requirements are simple and is a solid support that the governement is giving to entrepreneurs.

Casino Filipino presented their e-Casino Filipino franchise. It will cost around PhP 500,000 to setup or convert 3-4 computer stations to run exclusively e-Casino Filipino games. You get 25% of what eCasinoFilipino wins as your earnings - in Pinoy terms "25% ng panalo ng bangka ay iyo." Not bad if this kind of business is your cup of tea.

Food franchisers sponsored games. Whoever finishes first get more food hehe. Eating tacos or sandwiches as fast as you can is fine.

But eating a bag of peanuts as fast as you can is a bit of a challenge.
