What does this little civet (Alamid in Pinoy terms) ...
... and these seven brave souls from Intel have in common?
They are drinking what is known as Kape Alamid. There is a thrilling story behind the name and you really must try it. Brace yourself...
The Alamid eat fruits and berries which include coffee berries. The Alamid's stomach can only digest the soft part of the coffee berry leaving the coffee bean still intact. The partly digested coffee berry then comes out of the Alamid together with its poop. The poops are picked up by farmers, the coffee bean separated, roasted, ground and turned to one of the most expensive and exotic coffee in the world. This is what they are drinking. Even Oprah Winfrey tried it once in her show. They only told her the story after she drank it.
You can have kape Alamid when you go to Bag of Beans in Tagaytay. You can dine indoors or outdoors in the fresh cool air of Tagaytay.
Bottomless brewed coffee costs PhP 65. Great for catching up with old friends and bonding with new ones.

civet is a tree-dwelling, fruit-eating, catlike animal. Civets favorite food consists of durian, palm fruits and coffee beans.
ReplyDeleteOnly the hardest nut or bean can "survive" the digestion process of a civet.
The digestion process makes the eaten ripe red coffee cherries/beans acquire a peculiar taste.
So I guess, the connection between the civet and coffee drinkers is the same as producer and consumer
